- Typist is a tool to help you learn
- to type on the little tiny Portfolio
- keyboard. It takes any text file as
- input, presents it on the display as
- a target line to be typed, beeps if
- you mis-type a character, and
- continuously computes your typing
- speed in words per minute.
- To start, enter "typist textfile",
- where textfile is the name of any
- file which is mostly text. The
- program will strip out any
- characters outside the normal range
- of printable characters, replace any
- sequences of them with a single
- space, and display the printable
- characters on a line. The goal is
- to type the same line at the cursor.
- Timing doesn't start until the first
- character is typed, and the clock
- can be stopped by F1; it will resume
- when the next character is typed.
- The Escape key quits the program,
- which presents your final words per
- minute figure before it exits.
- Incidentally, the tab key will match
- anything, just in case there is some
- character you can't figure out how
- to type.
- You might try using this file as
- your first target file, that is by
- entering "typist typist.doc". A
- better target file is probably
- something you've written yourself,
- since that is presumably
- representative of what you will type
- using the Portfolio.
